Lavilin deodorant review

The most terrible product.

In all honesty. I am only ever motivated to write when a product is extremely amazing and deserves more than the stars allocated or terrible and worthy of no stars at all. Which goes to say that this product was a major epic fail.

I applied it exactly like prescribed on the bottle. Went out the next morning. It's not too hot where I am. About 18 c. Anyway, I was sweating profusely but attributed it to some glandular dysfunction that may have occurred due to ceasing hair removal laser treatments scattered over many years (laser not only retards hair growth it reduces sweat significantly). so when my go to deodorant stopped working and I was left with sweat blobs, I decided to hunt for a new product. I started off using a standard supermarket/chemist available product which did the trick. I noticed discoloration after having very clear and healthy skin for years. In a matter of months! So after some research, a natural no aluminum and other harming chemicals product was recommended. My dermatologist recommended one for me. Now while that was great for the odor it didn't do much for the sweat or discoloration. So I found an online review by this chick working for a popular main stream New York beauty-oriented site who swears by this product and decided to give it a go.
Foolish me decided to purchase two bottles cause I believed it was going to be a miracle solution. She tested so many and was very convincing.

Here's what happened:
First day I sweated like a cow. Odor (which I never ever in my life had before, being OCD about that as I am) began to occur. Noticeably too. And I began to smell like a hippy who hasn't bathed in weeks. I factored worse case scenario during this experiment and had a travel sized anti-presperant with me but held back for a couple more hours (by now it had been 6 hours since application of the Lavilin deodorant) I started getting a tingling burning sensation. So I went to the bathroom and washed it off. I waited for maybe 20 minutes for the tingling to subside before I could apply the backup. The tingling did not subside. In fact my pits turned into both sides of a baboon's behind. Not wanting to suffocate my living surroundings, I applied the backup anyway (it has aloe Vera) that seemed to calm things down surprisingly even though it had non natural stuff (the same stuff that caused the discoloration). Fast forward 5 more hours, and bam my armpits were inflamed. I showered and applied soothing cream and a few more hours some talc. It was fine.

The next day, not wanting to believe that the product was the cause, I reread the instructions and decided to give it a whack again after my bedtime shower (it says to apply it before bedtime evenly after shaking the bottle and not to apply till odor occurs. It also says it lasts 72 hours). The morning after that I went out again. Even wore a lighter outfit to avoid sweat and stay airy. Within 6 hours the same thing happened but worse. I smelled like a monkey and am sweating miserably and my underarms are sooooo red and painful I had to call in sick because I couldn't finish the day (there goes a valuable sick day). I am writing this on my way home to deal with scorched irritated skin.

Just to clarify my skin is pretty resilient and can withstand a lot of stress (sunburn which I don't get easily, harsh chemicals from products, i don't bruise easily. etc) I have been tested for allergies and no known reactions to anything have been detected (but it must be said those tests aren't that accurate anyway).

This is my honest review. Now I am left with a barely used bottle and a brand new one. Useless.

Very disappointed and like the U2 song goes, I still haven't found what I am looking for :(

Very effective, but a bit awkward to use

By Alan on 21 July 2015

If you have a problem with conventional aluminium based antiperspirant deodorants then this is about the best option. It wont stop you sweating, but it will stop you smelling. I'm always a bit suspicious of "magic" things, but this really is dramatically more effective than the alternatives.

I tried many other options - the best I had found previously was Toms of Maine, but it struggled to last the day. Some of the others were utterly useless (special mention to Jason for struggling to last a couple of hours!). Lavilin will confidently last a full day and have a decent go at a second day.

Some tips:
You do need to give it a few days before it starts working effectively, so try to time it so you are around the house and can fit in an extra shower or two until it gets established.
Do not try to "roll it around" to achieve even coverage as you would with a normal roll on - it is much too liquid for that. Instead put on two or three stripes and then use a finger to rub it in evenly.
Let it dry properly before putting on clothes. This is the biggest pain with it - you really need to give it at least 20 mins (or a lot of help with a hairdryer). If you feel any stickiness in your armpit, it is not completely dry.

There is also a stick version which doesn't have the drying issues, but sadly is also a fair bit less effective. It has a quite different list of ingredients, so I'd regard it as a different product from the same manufacturer, rather than a part of the same range.

I'm just trying out the Lavelin Mens 48Hr roll on product at the moment and it seems like it might be an improvement - smaller roll on ball and thicker consistency make it easier to apply and it seems like it might dry a little quicker.

Have been using this for a few days now.

By Hussein Kanji on 30 September 2014

Have been using this for a few days now, and it doesn't work. Barely lasts a few hours. I don't know if I got one that was defective (it took forever to ship, so who knows what conditions it was in) or what.

This works - from someone who smells/sweats easily

By E. Semme on 30 September 2016

So I can't believe this does exactly as it says on the bottle. As someone who sweats at the slightest thing, and smells of BO easily, I still can't quite believe I've finally found a product that works for me.

This deodorant has a lovely fresh smell. Most importantly, it does last for 72 hours - unbelievable. I don't mean to suggest that I'm still smelling as fresh as I did on day one of putting it on, but it still smells reasonable by the third day. It doesn't stop you sweating, but that's certainly not what I wanted it to do. The only thing I'll try to do is find the same product, but with some English instructions also written on the bottle!

Good product, but too expensive

By justine on 10 January 2017

The product works but it is VERY expensive to use on a regular basis. I was swung by reviews that says 'it's expensive but it lasts so you don't need to keep reapplying' but presumably this is only if you don't like to shower every day? I can imagine it would last more than one day if that were the case, but personally I like to shower every day so needed to reapply every day so it won't last any longer than a regular roll on. My two stars are more for the price than the product though - to be clear, the product works and is well packaged - if this is in your budget for a regular purchase, I would definitely recommend it.

If you are after a deo that prevents odour then this is fine.

By Colette Speed on 31 October 2014

Smells lovely and does prevent odour however it doesnt stop wetness. If you are after a deo that prevents odour then this is fine.

Excellent product. I tried this when my former natural deodorant was no longer working well.

It's an aluminium-free deodorant that actually works!
